Dr. Brown is a native of Huntsville and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham where he graduated in 1979 and became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

He did his internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin affiliated hospital in Madison where he received his training in internal medicine. He was honored to accept a post doctorate fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology through a National Institutes of Health Grant at Vanderbilt University under the direction of Dr. Steven Schenker, president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and editor of Hepatology. Then he was transferred with Dr. Schenker's group to the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio because of improved research funding to complete his studies. He began his practice in Huntsville in 1984. He then introduced the gastroscopic method of gastrostomy tube placement to our area.

Dr. Brown is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. He is the author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the UAB School of Medicine Huntsville. He is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Medical Association, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. In 1992, he was honored to become a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and is also a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Brown serves on the board of the Alabama Family Alliance. His wife is a school teacher and the mother of their two sons and one daughter. Dr. Brown enjoys reading and loves to teach. His favorite activities include swimming, bicycling, and hiking. Dr. Brown's interests include stamp, coin, baseball card and fossil collecting with his children. He enjoys Bible study and teaching Sunday school. Most of all, he just enjoys spending time with his family whenever possible.
