The Huntsville Endoscopy Center is the first single-specialty, ambulatory surgery center (ASC) dedicated solely to gastrointestinal health in North Alabama.
In 1992 Drs. Wilhelm Tietke, Walter Meyer, III, and Michael W. Brown decided that our community was lacking in an area of much needed patient care - GI procedures - and envisioned an alternative to procedures being performed in a hospital setting. They applied for and were granted a "Certificate of Need" (CON) by the State of Alabama, which agreed that our area was in need of this type of facility and the Huntsville Endoscopy Center was established. This CON would allow our physicians to offer quality care at a lower cost than a hospital facility. The concept would be to focus wholly on outpatient endoscopies, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Our pioneering physicians decided that they needed to build a facility large enough to handle the rapid growth of Huntsville and the Metro area. The 5,600 sq. ft., single specialty facility, located downtown at 119 Longwood Drive SW., utilizes the latest high-definition endoscopic equipment available. These advanced instruments complement our physicians in obtaining more accurate diagnoses, thus providing the patient with the very best possible treatment, prevention and care.
The Huntsville Endoscopy Center is accredited by The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). It is the preeminent leader in developing standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality and value for ambulatory health care through peer-based accreditation processes, education and research. Accreditation is awarded to organizations that are found to be in compliance with the Accreditation Association standards.

Our Clinical Supervisor, Darlia Biggerstaff, RN has over 25 years of experience in an outpatient setting. Our Endoscopy Center is committed to each patient achieving optimal GI health, and our staff is dedicated to providing each patient with safe, efficient and compassionate care.
